ACE-SIP (Sustainability Informatics for the Pacific) is a multi-university team advancing blockchain research and education in environmental, governmental, and social sustainability in the Pacific Region. Based at Monash University in Australia, the team benefits from the expertise of researchers from the University of Queensland, University of Sydney, Swinburne University of Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic, University of Fiji, University of the South Pacific, Oceania Cyber Security Centre, and ClimateWorks Australia.
ACE-SIP aims to make a global impact on sustainable development, particularly in the Pacific. Adopting an integrated approach, the team’s work encompasses environmental sustainability (climate change, energy, and water), governmental sustainability (protection, streamlined processes and waste reduction), and social and community sustainability (supply chains, real estate, Fintech, and culture). Their efforts focus on preserving natural resources and environmental quality, driving a more protected and optimised government model, and supporting the community socially, economically, and culturally.
ACE-SIP's activities fall within three interrelated clusters designed to achieve their Global Impact Initiative:
- Research: Driving cutting-edge sustainable blockchain technologies and ensuring they are ethically embedded into the lives and practices of people and societies. The research agenda ranges from improving the security and functionality of blockchains, including Algorand's, to understanding blockchain potential in the societal, community and social context of the Pacific region.
- Education: Equipping secondary, tertiary, and vocational students, enterprise and government leaders, and careers coordinators with the expertise and tools to create a diverse, high-quality, and connected workforce and curricula. Based on research-informed resources that focus on training using gamification, innovative and collaborative learning, and data analytics. Enterprises will undertake industry immersions and career-focussed initiatives to produce a blockchain-capable workforce.
- Community: Connecting with the Algorand community and providing support, opportunities and resources, ensuring long-term community sustainability beyond the lifetime of this ACE.
